How can we help?
1. About Logbird
Logbird is a personal aviation logbook for iPhone and iPad. It helps commercial and private pilots track flight hours, regulatory currency, fatigue (FTL) limits, and licence document expiry — all stored locally on your device.
Logbird is a personal logbook tool. It is not certified by any aviation authority and must not be used as the sole official record for regulatory compliance. Always maintain official logbook records as required by your operator and national authority.
2. Frequently asked questions
How do I log my first flight?
Open Logbird, tap the + button on the bottom bar (or the "Log a flight" button on the dashboard), fill in the date, route, and times, and tap Save Flight. Most fields are optional — only date, departure, and arrival are required.
Tip: pull down on the dashboard to refresh your roster, or tap "Try with sample data" on first launch to see what the app looks like with a populated logbook.
How do I export my logbook?
Go to Export from the sidebar (iPad/desktop) or the More tab (iPhone). You can export to:
- JSON — logbook backup, importable back into Logbird on any device. People-page photos stay on the original device and are not included.
- CSV — opens in Excel, Numbers, Google Sheets.
- EASA / FAA PDF logbook — formatted for official records.
- Excel (.xlsx) — multi-sheet workbook with stats.
Files are delivered through the iOS Share Sheet — save to Files, AirDrop, email, etc. Nothing is uploaded to any server.
How does the FDP simulator work?
The FDP simulator lets you model "what if my duty starts X minutes late?" before or during a duty. Open it from the clock icon on any upcoming flight in the Flights list, from the FTL Tracker page, or via the live drift banner on the dashboard when an active duty is approaching its cap.
The simulator looks up the maximum FDP from the published tables based on your reporting time, sector count, crew composition, and (where applicable) the in-flight rest facility class:
- EASA — Table 2 (acclimatised basic crew), Table 15 (planned extension), Tables 13–14 (unknown acclimatisation, with or without operator FRM), and CS-FTL.1.205(b) Class 1/2/3 caps for in-flight rest.
- FAA — Part 117 Table B (unaugmented) and Table C (augmented operations with Class 1/2/3 rest facilities).
The simulator does not model split duty, standby reductions, reduced-rest schemes, WOCL encroachment sector caps, or rest-frequency limits (two extensions per seven days). For these, consult your operator's OM-A. The commander remains responsible for FDP compliance.
How do I configure my operator's report-before-STD and post-flight duty?
Both values are operator-specific (EASA and FAA leave them to your OM-A). Open Settings → Operation type and adjust:
- Report-before-STD (min) — typical: 60 min short-haul, 75–90 min long-haul.
- Post-flight duty (min) — typical: 30 min short-haul, 45 min long-haul.
Both values affect the FDP and duty-period calculations everywhere in the app: dashboard PFD card, FTL Tracker duty cards, and the FDP simulator.
iCloud sync isn't working — what should I check?
iCloud sync uses your Apple ID's iCloud Drive. Common fixes:
- Verify iCloud Drive is enabled: Settings → [your name] → iCloud → iCloud Drive.
- Make sure Logbird is allowed under iCloud Drive's app list (same screen).
- Both devices must be signed in to the same Apple ID.
- Pull down on the dashboard to force a sync. The status pill at the top shows when the last sync ran.
- If the pill shows red ("sync failed"), check your network and try again.
If the issue persists, email us with the contents of Settings → Diagnostics → Sync activity.
I reinstalled the app and my flights are gone.
Deleting an iOS app removes its sandboxed local storage. To recover:
- If you had iCloud sync enabled, reinstall and sign in with the same Apple ID — the app pulls your logbook back automatically on first launch.
- If you exported a JSON backup before deleting, reinstall and import it from Export → Restore from Backup.
- If neither: we cannot recover the data because it was never stored on any server. Always export a JSON backup before uninstalling.
How do I import from another logbook app?
Logbird accepts CSV imports from most other logbook apps. Open Import from the sidebar (iPad/desktop) or the More tab (iPhone), pick the CSV, and map columns when prompted.
It also imports its own JSON backup format, ICS calendar files (for roster import), and pasted roster text from common airline crew systems.
If your source format isn't supported, email help@functionalbody.fi with a sample file and we'll usually add support within a release.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Apple manages all subscriptions, not the app:
- On iPhone/iPad: Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → Logbird → Cancel Subscription.
- On Mac: App Store → your account → Account Settings → Subscriptions → Logbird.
Cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period to avoid the next charge. The app continues to work until the period ends.
How do I get a refund?
Refunds are issued by Apple, not by us. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple ID, find the Logbird purchase, and request a refund. Apple decides eligibility per their App Store policy.
If you have feedback about why you're requesting a refund, we'd appreciate an email to help@functionalbody.fi — we use it to improve the app.
What's included in the free trial?
The 14-day trial unlocks every Premium feature: unlimited flights, all export formats, iCloud backup & sync, statistics, maps, route analytics, and all future updates.
The trial starts on your first logged flight (not on install) — so you can explore the app and import your existing logbook before the clock starts. After the trial, the free tier covers up to 50 flights total. Subscribe (€4.99/yr) or buy Lifetime (€19.99 one-time) for unlimited.
Prices shown are EUR developer references. Apple sets the actual price for your App Store region.
I'm not getting document-expiry notifications.
Notifications are off by default — you have to opt in:
- Open Settings → Notifications inside Logbird.
- Toggle "Enable notifications" on. iOS will ask for permission the first time.
- Pick which alerts you want (document expiry, currency, backup reminders).
If iOS still doesn't deliver them, check Settings → Notifications → Logbird in iOS Settings and confirm the system permission is granted.
Does Logbird work offline?
Yes — almost completely. All flight data, calculations, and exports run on-device with no internet required. The only outbound traffic is, if you turn on iCloud backup or Roster Sync, your own logbook syncing directly with Apple's iCloud or your airline's crew portal — never a Logbird server. Even the world map is drawn on-device from geography bundled in the app, so it works with no signal at all. The app uses iOS's built-in system fonts, so no font ever loads from the internet. All of this is documented in the Privacy Policy.
